A Snowball's Chance... is a name given to a dungeon area in Sea of Flame II, a CTM map by Vechs.

Overview[]

The fleecy box

This is a dungeon which takes place entirely in the Nether. It's accessed through a portal in Cathedral of the Suidae. The whole area of the Nether is significantly changed compared to normal though. The netherrack has been entirely replaced by snow, and all lava has been replaced by ice. There is also almost no soul sand and no gravel, instead, there are occassional lapis lazuli blocks. There are a few patches of soul sand with nether wart growing on them. Additionally, the glowstone clusters found at the ceiling of the Nether are replaced by diamond ore at the top part of the nether, and by gold blocks at the lower parts.

The area contains little structures, with the only exceptions being the starting area and the fleecy box. As such, it's easy to get lost in the dungeon, though the area is limited, so the player won't wander too far away. To get to the fleecy box, the player should go from the entrance to the doorway not containing the signs. From there, just going straight until the player hits the edge should lead him right to the frozen lake above which the fleecy box is located.

Points of interest[]

Resources[]

  • Black Wool
  • Veins of diamond ore (1,444 ore total) on the very ceiling of the dungeon.
  • Veins of gold blocks (616 blocks total) at the lower parts of the dungeon.
  • There are patches of soul sand with nether wart growing on them spread throughout the whole dungeon.

Hostilities[]

  • There is a single ghast spawner at the very top and very bottom of the pillar.
  • There are four more ghast spawners at both the upper and lower part of the pillar where it gets wider.
  • Right above the fleecy box, there is a platform containing four skeleton spawners.
  • Right below the fleecy box, there are two blaze spawners in the pillar.
  • The whole area takes place in the Nether, which means there are ghasts and zombie pigmen naturally spawning throughout the whole place.
  • Snow blocks have extremely low blast resistance, even lower than netherrack, which means ghast fireballs create bigger craters in it.

Strategies[]

SeaofFlames nether

Use this exit

Column

This is how it looks after you get inside the upper part

  • The room with portal has two exits. Use the one shown on the photo and go straight forward. When you reach the edge of the snow hangover you can see the column with the fleecy box on the horizon.
  • From here, make your way down to the frozen lake and destroy the fleecy box next to the one wide snow column. Destroy the one wide column and pillar your way up to the fleecy box, destroying the ghast and blaze spawners as you go. Dig back down and run back to safety.

Trivia[]

  • There are few signs near the entrance to the dungeon which give a possible backstory about the dungeon and the whole map. They say "I wonder if the zombie pigmen used magic to take the heat from the Nether and somehow send it to the normal world. That theory would certainly explain the enviroments..."
